I SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD YEARS AGO: THE RAW LIFE OF STUART GRAY

The filmmakers of Magic Umbrella, Inc., who brought the world UNKNOWN PASSAGE: THE DEAD MOON STORY, present their latest full-length documentary – I SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD YEARS AGO:  THE RAW LIFE OF STUART GRAY. Shot over a 20 year period, the documentary focuses on the legendarily notorious English/Australian musician and outsider visual artist Stuart Gray, formerly known as Stu Spasm.

The film takes you on tour with the transgressive band LUBRICATED GOAT and features interviews with Gray spanning two decades. You also see archival footage, photos, and performances of Gray’s new musical outfit THE ART GRAY NOIZZ QUINTET, Gray’s sculptures and paintings, and footage of his supergroup CRUNT with BABES IN TOYLAND’s Kat Bjelland and Russell Simins of JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION. You also see interviews with Guy Maddison, Steve Turner, and Mark Arm of MUDHONEY, and Tex Perkins of SALAMNDER JIM and BEASTS OF BOURBON. This film packs in all the crazy rock antics and soul-slamming music that 101 minutes can possibly contain.

Berlin figures prominently in Gray’s story arc, for nefarious reasons, and Gray the raconteur tells his tales with an unflinching earnestness that captivates.

This screening at Moviemento will be the film’s German premiere and will be attended by the director, Jason Axel Summers, who will give a short Q&A after the film.
