Das Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM, www.mecam.tn) lädt herzlich zu seiner nächsten Rencontre Ibn Khaldun ein: einem Screening des Films Lella in Anwesenheit des Regisseurs Habib Ayeb. Lella rückt die oft unsichtbare gesellschaftliche, wirtschaftliche und familiäre Arbeit tunesischer Frauen in den Mittelpunkt und macht ihre zentrale Rolle als Trägerinnen von Wissen, Fürsorge, Produktion und kollektivem Gedächtnis sichtbar.

Im Anschluss an die Filmvorführung findet ein Gespräch mit dem Filmemacher statt. Die Diskussion wird auf Englisch geführt. Eintritt frei!

Kurzbeschreibung des Films:

The documentary film “Lella” attempts to give a face and a voice to ordinary Tunisian women and to document the central role and essential functions they perform daily within their families and in society as a whole, functions which are generally ignored and rendered invisible. These incredibly strong and powerful women, who never appear in the media and public spaces, or only very rarely and in a rather folkloric way, possess unparalleled knowledge, skills, and strength. They give life, they raise, they educate, they produce, they transform, they nourish, they create… they decide, and they transmit collective memory. Guardians and protectors of life, they are always the first up and the last to bed… Despite their public invisibility, women responsibly bear the burden of family and society in a fundamentally matriarchal system, despite all appearances of patriarchy. “Lella,” filmed throughout Tunisia, primarily in rural areas, is both a testimony and an attempt to illuminate and document the exceptional and indispensable roles of these women.
