Nós, Povo das Ilhas

78 Min. | PT, MZ | 2025

Language: OmeU | Original language: Creole, Portuguese

Director: Elson Santos + Lara Sousa

From a forgotten photo of a group of clandestine Cape Verdean guerrillas in the mountains of Cuba, Elson, a young filmmaker, searches for the silenced heroes of this daring and little-known military operation, whose main objective was to fulfil Amílcar Cabral’s dream of liberating the country from the grip of colonialism. Moving back and forth between past and present, the film establishes a dialogue with the heroes of Cape Verde’s independence, travelling with them through the years of struggle in Guinea and post-independence Cape Verde, and reflecting on dreams, nightmares, and what the country has become today, between utopia and oblivion.
